Its Game 2 of the Peter Laviolette era in Philadelphia, and the hope in the City of Brotherly Love is that it goes much better than the opener. The Flyers dropped an 8-2 decision on home ice on Saturday against the Washington Capitals. The Flyers’ six-goal loss to the Capitals marked the second-largest margin of defeat for an NHL coach making his replacement debut. The record is seven goals and the last time it occurred was when Ted Green and his Edmonton Oilers lost 9-2 to the Calgary Flames on Oct. 4, 1991.
Flyers forward Simon Gagne is expected to miss another two weeks as he recovers from hernia surgery. Blair Betts (shoulder) and Darroll Powe (hand/wrist) are also out for two weeks. … Gionta is out indefinitely for the Canadiens with a foot injury, while defenseman Andrei Markov (leg) hopes to return next month. Benoit Pouliot (wrist) is day-to-day.
This is the first of four meetings between the teams this season. They last met on Feb. 27, when Mathieu Schneider scored 3:21 into overtime to lift the Canadiens to a 4-3 victory at the Wachovia Center. We will post information about results of this match, as soon as posible.. stay with us.
