Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall is out 4-8 weeks with a sprained knee following a collision with Montreal forward Georges Laraque. Jason Williams could miss another two months with a fractured right fibula. Valtteri Filppula will likely miss another month due to a broken wrist. Johan Franzen (torn ACL) is out until at least the Olympic break, while Andreas Lilja is out indefinitely due to post-concussion syndrome. … For the Blues, forward D.J. King is out with a broken hand. He could miss up to another month.Despite a sluggish start, a victory on Saturday would pull the Blues even with the Red Wings in the Central Division standings. St. Louis is aiming for its third straight win following Friday’s 3-1 victory at Nashville.
This is the third of six meetings between the teams, and the first since the NHL Premier Series in Stockholm on Oct. 2-3. The Blues swept those two games, winning 4-3 and 5-3.
The Red Wings have lost five of their last six games and have lost four in a row at Joe Louis Arena for the first time in almost two years.
